Pilates is a type of exercise that isn't like cardio, but helps to tone and balance your body all the same. Like Yoga, Pilates is a type of exercise that can be used for a variety of purposes in addition to your regular cardio and weight lifting or used as your main form of staying in shape. Pilates may be right for you if you fit some of the criteria that you'll learn here.

You're pregnant or just had a baby

If you're pregnant or have recently delivered a baby, and your doctor gives you permission for light exercise, then Pilates can be good for you. This type of exercise can strengthen your core and abdominal muscles as well as help keep your spine aligned, all healthy things you need to have when you are carrying a baby or have recently had one.

You're stress out

Pilates can be used for stress relief at the end of the day, or can be done to help you prepare for the busy day ahead of you. If you are prone to stress and taking medication for anxiety or depression, Pilates can be useful in this area as well. Since these are exercises you can do in your own home, you can relax and do your Pilates moves and stretches whenever you feel the urge to do so to help keep your mental health in check.

You're not super active

Are you new to exercise in general? If so, Pilates can be a great way to get yourself motivated to do more workouts. You can use Pilates in conjunction with light walking or light weight lifting, or just start with this type of exercise as you get used to moving.

If you are recently recovering from an injury or surgery, make sure you get permission from your doctor before you start doing Pilates. If you are at risk of injury or have high blood pressure, start doing Pilates under the instruction of a trained professional.

You're wanting something new

Are you just wanting to try something new to add to your current exercise routine? If so, try Pilates. Pilates is a bit different from Yoga and can be a bit more challenging to the body, so if you are used to working out and just want to change things up or tone your body in new ways, this may be the type of exercise that will fill your fitness needs.
